She felt a surge of guilt wash over her as she decided to accept the gift. Her mind kicked into over drive, trying to rationalize her actions. “It’s okay, I mean, I’ll only keep it for a while and then give it back…It’s only fair, you’ve gone your whole life without sound, others should be able to adapt it’ll just take them a while…” The thought did little to ease her troubled mind.

The first thing she noticed was a soft ringing in her ears. Within moments the sounds of her surroundings were fully assaulting her ears. Her eyes went wide with shock and then began brimming with tears as she realized that she could hear.
